Trump, First Lady Will Steer Clear of Houston on Texas Trip

President Donald Trump will not visit flood-ravaged Houston"The place he will be going to will not be Houston, so it will not be getting into harm's way or interrupting the evacuations or emergency response in the Houston area," the Republican said on "CBS This Morning." "He most likely will be going closer to where the hurricane hit land."Trump and first lady Melania Trump will travel to Texas on Tuesday to survey the damage wrought by Harvey, as the forecast predicts more torrential rain and thousands have been displaced by floodwaters that continue to rise.The White House on Sunday did not provide specific details as to where the president will go and cautioned that plans could change.Trump spent the weekend at Camp David, holding two teleconferences with members of his Cabinet and sending out multiple tweets. He signed a disaster declaration for Louisiana on Monday, as Harvey, now downgraded to a tropical storm, tracked slowly east and out towards the Gulf of Mexico.At least five people have died and tens of thousands have been displaced from their homes by Harvey, which made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane Friday night in Rockport, Texas, north of Corpus Christi. Some places could see as much as 50 inches of rain, easily smashing Texas rainfall records, overtopping levees and forcing officials to release water from two reservoirs near Houston at risk of catastrophic failure.during a visit planned for Tuesday but will tour an area closer to where Hurricane Harvey made landfall in an effort to minimize any disruptions, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Monday.
